Sateen is a type of weave that creates a silky, smooth texture by using a three yarn over, one yarn under weave pattern. It feels softer and more luxurious compared to percale, which has a crisp, matte finish (similar to hotel sheets). Sateen is great for those who prefer a softer, more drapey feel.
Higher thread counts don't necessarily mean better sheets – sometimes they can even be less breathable or less durable depending on the quality of the cotton and the weave. For organic cotton, between 200 and 400 is the ideal thread count for comfort and longevity according to the National Sleep Foundation, making 300 the perfect sweet spot.

I bought a set of these sheets in 2021 with my mattress and absolutely loved them. I just bought a 2nd set of sheets and they are nothing like the previous sheets. The new set is a sateen finish which I hate and it's not mentioned anywhere on the product page either. I am so disappointed in these new sheets.

A: Happsy's GOTS-certified sheets are not treated with lye.While some sateen sheets are treated with lye during a mercerization process to achieve a sateen finish, Happsy achieves the smooth sateen-feel of the sheets by the quality of the weave and not with a mercerization process.
